While our Butter Churns are not certified safe for food grade production, the are a lot of people who use our butter churns to make butter in a safe manner. Our butter churns are not considered safe for food consumption because we do not use a food grade glue to bond out churns together.
If you search the web, you will find that that are several food grade certified wood butter churns for sale, be prepared to pay the price for a certified food grade wood butter churn.
The insurance for the food grade is cost prohibitive to our company. The price of a butter churn would double. We have been building wood buckets and wood butter churns the same way for over Fifty Three Year, seems to be working for us the way it is. The solution is simple, there are two ways you can use our butter churns to safely make butter. Wal-Mart sells food grade paraffin wax that can be used to seal the butter churn, Wal-Mart also sells plastic inserts so that the milk never meets the wood or glue in the churn.
